Legendary singer David Masondo has passed away.

His family confirmed through his manager to eNCA that the Soul Brothers lead singer died this afternoon at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.

The 67-year-old was rushed to hospital for fatigue last month, following a performance in Port Elizabeth.

His career with Soul Brothers, dubbed the Mbaqanga kings, spanned for over three decades.

Having produced more than 35 albums over the years, which have sold more than three million copies worldwide, the Soul Brothers lost fellow band members Tuza Mthethwa in 1979 and Zakes Mchunu in 1984.
