Parliament and provincial legislature members graduate at Wits

Fifty-seven MPs and MPLs will graduate from the South African Legislative Sector’s Capacity Building Programme at a University of the Witwatersrand graduation ceremony on Thursday.

A further 19 members had completed a short learning programme through the University of Johannesburg and would graduate at a later date‚ a statement from the office of the public protector said on Wednesday.

These courses are part of a Capacity Building Programme for MPs and MPLs initiated in 2009 by the Speakers’ Forum‚ in partnership with the National School of Government and selected institutions of higher learning.

“The purpose of the courses is to enhance the performance of members to execute their constitutional responsibilities as legislators‚ more effectively.”

Also‚ 38 members are registered for the two-year Master’s degree in Management in the field of Governance and Leadership at the University of Witwatersrand.
