No more PUTCO bus service from tomorrow
PUTCO bus service has expressed its intention to cease all operations in Gauteng.
“Putco Bus Services have indicated to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport its intention to cease operations in Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng municipalities with effect from 30 June 2015,” the Gauteng roads and transport department said in a statement.
Understandably this will leave many commuters stranded. The Department has stated that there will be another bus service Autopax, a subsidiary of PRASA, transporting commuters in the affected areas.
The City of Johannesburg has meanwhile announced that they have signed a 12 year bus operating contract with the second Rea Vaya bus operating company, Ditsamaiso.
The service will be implemented on the 1 August 2015.
The new company which is owned 75% by former taxi operators and 25% by PUTCO has been in existence since 2013.
PUTCO bus services could not be reached at the time of printing and no light has been shed on the fate of the bus drivers who drove the cancelled routes.
