Case postponed after man confesses to stabbing teen girlfriend 39 times

Despite a confession in the case of the brutal stabbing of a teenage girl‚ the state has failed to explain why it has postponed it for the past six months and the defence wants to know the reason.

Last month (20-04-2015)‚ Thomas Davids‚ 22‚ confessed to stabbing his girlfriend Valdene Jacobs‚ 19‚ on her face‚ neck‚ chest‚ arm‚ leg and hands‚ 39 times.

Jacobs was found lying in a pool of blood in Davids’ driveway by her mother and her friend.

They took her to the local fire station where she later died.

During his bail application at the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto‚ last month‚ Davids said he had a fight with Jacobs at his house. He said he then grabbed a knife and stabbed her repeatedly. Their struggle ended in the driveway.

The Eldorado Park resident fled after stabbing her and was arrested later.

On Wednesday‚ the court postponed the matter for further investigation‚ but it did not explain what was being investigated.

Davids’ defence attorney‚ Desmond Brown‚ said although he did not oppose the postponement‚ he felt like there should be an explanation.

Magistrate Herman Badenhorst said maybe the police had asked for a postponement for a DNA tests to be finalised‚ which could take up to eight months.

But Brown said as Davids had already confessed‚ the matter should have been “open and shut”.

Outside court‚ Davids’ aunt‚ who did not want to be named‚ said she did not know why the matter kept being postponed but‚ “God is great and he’s the only judge”.

The matter was postponed to next month.
