Noah takes to Twitter to query reports of cousin’s death

Trevor Noah has questioned claims made by his grandmother that his cousin had died‚ adding to the many tragedies which have beset his family.

Noah took to Twitter to say: "Thanks to some crafty journalism my family and I have spent the whole day trying to figure out if one of us died. #awkward".

He later tweeted: "Don't always believe what you read. This is something I learned from aliens when I travelled to Mars last year."

The Sunday Times reported that Noah's cousin‚ Cebisile Happiness Khoza‚ a teacher from a village near Wasbank in KwaZulu-Natal had been buried by relatives.

The newspaper said: "It was the fourth tragedy to strike women in Noah's family and comes as the comedian prepares to take up his hosting of the popular The Daily Show in the US."

The newspaper added that "Noah had not been reached by his family as he was travelling overseas"‚ which might explain Noah's tweets.

The newspaper quoted Noah's grandmother‚ Nomalizo Noah‚ confirming the death on the record.

The elderly woman said she received news of Khoza's death in a phone call from a relative in Pietermaritzburg.

"How do you explain this?" she asked. "It is a curse‚ I believe the family is cursed."

The death was also confirmed by her boyfriend‚ a teacher‚ and the principal of the school where she taught.
