‘Teachers not paid since January’

A large number of newly appointed teachers in the Eastern Cape have not been paid since January‚ according to the Democratic Alliance.

The DA’s MPL Edmund van Vuuren said 63 teachers in the Graaff-Reinet district and “a multitude” of teachers in the Cradock and Port Elizabeth districts also did not have their salaries paid.

“It is unacceptable that employees that have delivered a service are treated with such disdain‚” he said‚ noting that he had taken up the issue with the MEC for Education‚ Mandla Maklupula.
