While congratulations are pouring in for the newly elected Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Danny Jordaan, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for him to vacate the South African Football Association (SAFA) presidency with immediate effect.

Jordaan was elected mayor of the troubled Nelson Mandela Bay mayor by the African National Congress (ANC) on Monday.

The EFF immediately came out guns blazing saying that the football association needs a leader who does not belong to any party.

“At the helm of SAFA must be a person that all the supporters of Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, and the rest of national soccer teams can associate with regardless of which political parties they belong to.

“Jordaan must also resign to ensure that he does not render a body, that should be neutral and rally everyone regardless of their political affiliation, partisan,” EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said.

Jordaan decided to make his comeback into politics after 18 years and Ndlozi believes that an honourable thing would be to resign from SAFA.

“Jordaan must resign from the association since he has chosen active politics and life as an ANC politician.

“It is obvious that Mr Jordaan has elected to be the Messiah of the kleptocratic and collapsing ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay and he must therefore do the honourable thing and vacate SAFA with immediate effect.”

He replaces the 82 year-old Ben Fihla who is yet to resign.
