Illegal industrial action caused commuters using some Gautrain buses to be delayed on Tuesday morning when they failed to start as scheduled.

The train service took to Twitter to warn passengers to expect delays of between an hour and an hour and a half before the resumption of its auxiliary bus service.

@TheGautrain also posted that it was an “industrial action” and “not a strike” that was causing the delays.

This was confirmed by spokesman Ian Findlay‚ who told RDM News Wire that the problem seemed to be centred at Midrand depot‚ where drivers had pitched up but were refusing to work as usual.

“It appears they are on a go-slow‚” Findlay said‚ adding that the action was “illegal industrial action” as wage negotiations were ongoing at national bargaining council level.

While Gautrain were still assessing the extent of the action and trying to contract union representatives‚ Findlay said that bus services at the Park‚ Centurion‚ Pretoria and Hatfield stations were running as normal.
