Cut Cabinet by half: Cope

That’s what the Congress of the People wants the the Presidency to do when it reshuffles the Cabinet in the wake of Minister of Public Service Collins Chabane’s passing.

The popular Chabane was killed in a car crash in March.

Cope spokesperson Dennis Bloem‚ quoting a daily newspaper as an authoritative source‚ said: “Cope is surprised that the Presidency is denying an imminent cabinet reshuffle…The New Age suggested an imminent cabinet reshuffle.

Bloem pleaded for President Jacob Zuma to heed his party‚ which has “consistently called for government to downsize”.

“Whenever this happens‚ the President must reduce his cabinet by half. COPE.”

When Zuma took office in 2009‚ Bloem said‚ he virtually doubled his cabinet…”solely to accommodate loyalists at taxpayers’ expense”.

“The government is testing the patience of the people while rewarding politicians.

“There is nothing to boast about having the biggest cabinet in the world when it fails miserably in deliver basic services. A government of 35 ministers and 37 deputies is exorbitantly expensive.

“We do not want another reshuffle. We want a 50% reduction in the size of government without any delay.”
