Husband arrested in Jayde Panayiotou case

Robbery has been ruled out as a motive for the murder of Port Elizabeth teacher Jayde Panayiotou as husband is reported as one of the two arrested today.

Sources have told The Herald that Panayiotou’s husband had been arrested and would appear in court on Monday May 4.

Addressing the media in Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning‚ police confirmed that they had ruled out robbery and that two suspects had been arrested in connection with her murder.

Eastern Cape detective head Brigadier Gary McLaren and police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said two men‚ aged 28 and 31‚ were arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Panayiotou.

One suspect was arrested during the week and a second suspect was arrested late on Wednesday night.

According to police‚ one suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning and the second suspect will appear in court on Monday May 4.

In a case that shocked the Nelson Mandela Bay metro‚ Panayiotou was abducted outside her Kabega Park home last week.

Her body was found near KwaNobuhle Township in Uitenhage the next day.
