SABC suspends Motsoeneng for 60 days

SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been suspended for 60 days with immediate effect.

This comes after a successful court application by the Democratic Alliance forcing the SABC to suspend Motsoeneng pending a disciplinary proceeding.

Public Protector found Motsoeneng guilty of giving himself multiple salary increases from R1.5 million annual salary to R2.4 million in one year as well as misrepresenting his matric qualification and called for the SABC to suspend and take disciplinary actions against its operating officer.

"The judgment goes to the heart of the Public Protector's remedial actions in affairs of the State," the Democratic Alliance's James Selfe was quoted on News24.

"If the disciplinary proceedings find him innocent, he can presumably go back to work after 60 days."
