Killing of Satawu provincial secretary ‘abhorrent’: Cope

The Congress of the People has added it voice to the outcry over the murder of top union figure Chris Nkosi.

The Gauteng provincial secretary of the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union was shot and killed at an intersection in Germiston on Monday night.

“The descent into lawlessness that we are experiencing is something we cannot tolerate‚” COPE president Mosiuoa Lekota said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

“All unions must enjoy democratic space and in spite of all differences‚ no individual has the right to resort to violence and murder. That is abhorrent to society.”

While declining to name Nkosi‚ police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said “the victim had stopped at the corner of Black Reef and Russel roads‚ and that someone in the [BMW] opened fire [at the victim]”.

Dlamini said the motive for the killing was not known and no arrests had been made.
