Dog rape victim to get counselling

The man who was allegedly forced to have sex with a dog by his employer's son will undergo counselling.

Sowetan reported last week that the suspect, aged 16, allegedly instructed his male dog to mount and have sex with the man, 57, for several days while he was employed as a security guard in Welkom, Free State.

The man later refused to take part in the act, telling the suspect he would "rather die" than carry on being made a sexual object.

Free State department of social development MEC Sisi Ntombela said she was "horrified" to hear about what happened to the man.

"I learned with shock newspaper reports that a man as old as him was forced into such a disgusting act. I struggled to understand how a person could do that to a fellow human being.

"This is truly sad and I am horrified. I can only imagine what this man must be feeling," she said. "He must be feeling down and that is why it is important for us to rally around him and support him. I will also ensure that he receives counselling because this experience must have left him traumatised," Ntombela added.

She said her department would try to find ways to assist him.

Both the youth and his father have been charged with attempted compelled rape and crimen injuria.

The boy was released into his mother's care, while his father, who allegedly racially abused the man, is out on R2000 bail.
