After meeting his future bride for the first time, Kang Hu left the wedding ceremony and jumped into a nearby river to drown himself.

According to elitedaily.com the groom stunned guests when he apologised to the bride, then told her she was too ugly to marry.

He claimed that 30-year-old Na Sung was bad for his image because she is too ugly.

Hu's parents had arranged the marriage and he felt that suicide was the only way out.

A guest explained that both the bride and groom's families were furious and his friends were embarrassed. "Kang has very exact tastes and had been forced into this marriage."

Rescue workers found Hu floating face down in the river after guests alerted police to the attempted suicide.

The 33-year-old was rushed to hospital where doctors said he was in a stable condition.

"I feel bad about what happened but when I saw her she wasn’t what I had expected and I realised she would be bad for my image. My parents had arranged this and I couldn’t see any way out apart from suicide," said Hu
