Nkuli was not a violent person: Mpho Habedi

The late Skwatta Kamp rap artist Nkuli ‘Flabba’ Habedi’s estranged wife, Mpho is still struggling to come to terms with the violent manner in which he died.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ENCA, the mother of rapper’s 14-year-old daughter said the Nkuli she knew was not a violent person.

“You know what, I'm not going to say a lot because at the end of the day I wasn’t in the room when they were together but according to me he wasn't violent at all”, she said.

The two had known each other for 20 years and had been together for 15 years before separating.

“For the twenty years we were together I have never experienced anything that would make me say wow I almost did what she has done,” she said.

This is the second time Mpho has spoken out since the death of her childhood sweetheart.

She also wrote a tribute which was read out during the rapper’s funeral on Sunday.

"You once said to me that our love is like the sun: it rises, it shines. But unfortunately it sets for a few hours and I truly believe that it was on the point of rising again," read the tribute.

"Despite what people might think, I am truly hurt. People will never know the bond we shared.

"I still have a long road with Lesego. Please be with me on this road. I am going to miss you," the moving letter said.

Habedi, a member of hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp, was stabbed to death at his home in the early hours of Monday, 9 March 2015, allegedly by Sindisiwe Manqele, his girlfriend.

Manqele was granted R10, 000 bail. The matter has been postponed to May 13 for further investigation.

The in-depth report on the murder case and how it has affected those who were close to Flabba and Sindisiwe will be aired on Checkpoint next Tuesday at 9:30pm.
