Mthethwa appointed into late Chabane's post

By Sapa | Mar 16, 2015 | COMMENTS [ 76 ]

Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa has been appointed as the acting minister of public service and administration, the Presidency said on Monday.

This followed the death of Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane on Sunday.

Chabane and his bodyguards Sergeant Lesiba Sekele and Sergeant Lawrence Lentsoane were killed instantly when a truck allegedly did a u-turn in front of their car on the N1 near Polokwane in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The truck driver was not injured. He was arrested on the scene and charged with culpable homicide. He would appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

President Jacob Zuma extended his condolences to the staff of the department who lost their second minister in a short space of time.

Chabane's predecessor Roy Padayachie died of natural cause in 2012.

Someone has to take the job. It's not as if Chabane is coming back.

It's not about who... it's about the fact that the post OBVIOUSLY has to be filled asap. Your position is plain silly.

Thanks RobinX. Your comment is fair enough for this Kgonyoh who doesn't expand his thinking capacity.

President Nkohlakalo Zuma had to place a cadre there ASAP!!! There was no better obeying cadre more than Mthethwa.

Arewanga it seems you dont understand where im coming from on this one, you see traditionally do you know that a widow is not permitted to move on with her life immediately after the burial, its taboo particularly in my culture, she can only move on after few years and only the man's family terms!the same is also true with the man

Exactly Robinx. It's being true to that old adage "The show goes on". It's actually a hailed development as our government is infamous for lacking decisiveness. Glad they caught that truck driver. They caused a car to spin out of control the other year in tge m1 north, and yet the truck driver still continued to speed off. Cold blooded killers.

That's my only memory of him too - sad. When you're an elected member of government, you should seize the chance to change lives for the better and make your position count. And be remembered for something more noteworthy.

A dear friend actually thinks he does swing that way, which is why they put him in something soft like Arts and Culture. Lol

as a police minister, he approved huge expenditure on number one's compound, now he's been given a ministry that needs a man with integrity? I wonder why! think Zuma is going for a killing now, we need to minimize Zuma's grip on the municipal elections! failure to that, this country will be sent to the cleaners before the next general elections.

what's going to happen to the Arts and culture ministry? is it less important? Zuma?

Mar 16, 2015 8:23 | 2 replies

I hope public servants are safe from this guy when the are busy negotiating salary increase

Mar 16, 2015 8:24 | 1 replies

CharlesTaylor2

Public servants are heading for mid-year salary negotiations and Mthethwa, the killer minister, is the right one to be place in this department, I forsee dead public servants, just like Marikana miners.

The salary negotiations are going to be interesting to watch. The rating agencies maintain that SA will be reduced to "Junk credit" status if the settlement is anything over 6.5%. Inflation is around 6% so don't see why they should get over inflation.
