Family, friends and fans of musician Nkululeko Habedi, known as Flabba, arrived at the Bassline, in Newtown, Johannesburg on Wednesday for his memorial service.

"Today, I won't quote from any scripture in the Bible but I will quote Nkuli (Habedi)," a relative said before opening the memorial service in prayer.

The master of ceremony acknowledged and welcomed Habedi's family, the social welfare department, his band Skwatta Kamp, and the fans present.

The Bassline was filled to capacity with a few seats reserved for the family of the 38-year-old musician.

His family arrived shortly after noon and the memorial service started.

Habedi's music played over the speakers while people waited for proceedings to start.

Celebrities including Trevor Gumbi, N-Veigh, L-Tido, Amu, Ismael and Shugasmaxx were attending.

Bouquets and wreaths were being placed on stage, where photos of the musician were displayed.

Habedi was stabbed in the heart in his Alexandra home in the early hours of Monday. Police arrived and arrested his girlfriend, Sindisiwe Manqele, 26.

Manqele appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a murder charge. The case was postponed to March 16.
