Four boys face school disciplinary action

Four white high school students accused of raping and assaulting a black student will face a disciplinary hearing next week at the Hoer Landbouskool in Jan Kempdorp in the Northern Cape, the Sunday Times reported.

The boys, aged between 14 and 18, have been suspended since January 9 after an incident in which they allegedly grabbed a fellow student, stripped him, painted him white and sodomised him with a broom handle.

The incident was captured on a cellphone.

Northern Cape education department spokesman Sydney Stander told the newspaper that the boys had, as yet, shown no remorse.

"We don't know whether they will decide to do so during the disciplinary hearing".

They also face criminal charges in a case opened at the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate's Court.

Proceedings in the matter will resume on April 9.

Stander said the victim's parents had reversed a previous decision for their son, aged 18, not to return to the school, and now wanted him to do so -- with guidance from a psychologist.
