Do not take law into own hands: Mpumalanga MEC

Community members should not take the law into their own hands, Mpumalanga community safety MEC Vusi Shongwe said on Sunday.

This follows three people allegedly being stoned to death by community members in Elukwatini after two people were stabbed to death at taverns in the area on Friday, Shongwe said in a statement.

The MEC condemned both incidents, stating the police had to urgently bring all perpetrators to book.

"It is alleged that community members hunted them down, apprehended them before stoning them to death," Shongwe said.

"Let us not practice vigilantism. Let us rather work with the police to bring suspects to book so that they can face the law."

Police were investigating.
