Paternity test nails politician

A PROMINENT Limpopo politician has been left with egg on his face after the results of his disputed paternity of his three children proved he is their father.

The politician, who is known to Sowetan but cannot be named to protect the identity of his three minor children, had denied fathering the children. Sowetan has seen the results, released on January 15, which indicate that he is the father.

The politician has since separated from his wife after she moved out of their marital home. Now the unemployed woman is struggling to raise the kids, aged 13, nine and three.

The woman said yesterday that problems started after she found out that her husband was having an affair with a married woman in Polokwane. She claimed to have stumbled on pictures of the two having sex.

"My worry was that some of the pictures of them having sex indicated they were inside our bedroom. And when I confronted him about it he told me he no longer loved me," said the heartbroken woman.

She said she showed the pictures to the woman's husband, who was also shocked.

"Initially, my husband had promised to end his affair with the woman but she later moved to Pretoria after finding a job there. I realised they were still seeing each other."

She said she wanted nothing to do with her husband, except for him to continue supporting his children.

The politician said yesterday that he knew about the results of the paternity test he had taken .

"I wanted to make sure that those kids are indeed mine, hence I went for a paternity [test] to prove they are mine. I will continue to support them with a smile, as I did before," he said.

He denied knowledge of an affair, saying his wife was "just bitter".
