Zim police arrest alleged mini-skirt attacker

Zimbabwean police have arrested a man who allegedly took part in a widely-publicised attack upon a woman in Harare who wore a mini-skirt, it was reported Friday.

The man, named as 32-year-old Marvelous Kandemiri, will now face charges of indecent assault, the state ZBC broadcaster confirmed.

Police spokesman Paul Nyathi said the victim of the attack only came forward on Wednesday, around a week after the incident happened.

A video posted on social media last week showed the woman being dragged from a minibus and forcibly undressed by cheering men.

The footage elicited outrage from many Zimbabweans and opened up a wider debate about street harassment in the southern African country.

Some locals have pointed out that First Lady Grace Mugabe recently criticised the ousted vice president Joice Mujuru for allegedly wearing a mini-skirt.

Kandemiri faces charges of indecent assault.
