Woman tells of rape in a hole

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman demonstrated to North West High Court judge Adolph Landman how a stranger shot her boyfriend before raping her inside a dark hole.

The woman was one of 132 witnesses who were called by the court to testify in the case against Joseph Motsame, 37, and his accomplice Kabelo Molatole, 21. They are facing 63 charges including seven of murder, 16 of kidnapping, four of rape and one of violating a corpse.

Motsame and Molatole, both of Dinokana village near Zeerust, allegedly committed the crimes between 2008 and 2012.

They would allegedly target couples walking in the streets at night. They would fire a shot and instruct them to go with them to an open field or abandoned area.

The suspects would instruct the couples to undress and have sex. After that they would then penetrate the women with their fingers or rape them.

The 22-year-old woman was raped in September 2012 when her boyfriend was walking her home. Yesterday she told Landman that a man followed them from the shop where they had bought sweets. He pointed a gun before instructing them to jump into a hole.

"He then shot my boyfriend in his foot and ordered him to lie down and told me to undress. He said I must bend with my buttocks facing him and he penetrated me with his penis," she said while bending to demonstrate how she was violated.

She said she noticed that Motsame did not use a condom and also felt a liquid coming out of her vagina after the rape. While explaining to the judge, the woman, with a frown, kept on looking at the accused directly in his eyes. The rape accused kept himself busy scribbling notes.

"After raping me he then asked for R20. We said we don't have and then he kicked me all over my body."

The woman said because she wanted to survive she then told the man that she had the money at her parents' home.

"That was when he told us to come out of the hole, still pointing a gun at us and we walked to my parents' home. On our arrival I told him that I did not have money and then he fired a shot and I managed to escape," she said.

The trial continues.
