Global sports stars Meyiwa and Mulaudzi to get provincial funerals

South African national flags will be flown at half-mast in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo Province on Saturday when Senzo will be laid to rest.

The two sports stars who have represented South Africa internationally, will receive official provincial funerals, President Jacob Zuma declared on Friday.

Minister in the Presidency Nathi Mthethwa is set to deliver eulogy at the former Bafana Bafana captain Meyiwa's funeral while Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane will be delivering the eulogy at the Olympic medallist Mulaudzi's funeral.

“The two sports stars have represented the nation exceptionally well in national and international sporting engagements, generating immense national pride and unity,” said Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj.

Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula said that they have made free public transport available for everyone that would like to attend the funerals.

He said that there will buses and trains travelling from Johannesburg to KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo for the funerals.
