14 shortlisted for IEC commissioner position

Fourteen people have been shortlisted for a position of a commissioner of the Electoral Commission SA following the resignation of chairwoman Pansy Tlakula, the office of the chief justice said on Friday.

"A panel chaired by the chief justice... comprising of the chairperson of the SA Human Rights Commission, chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality and the public protector... met and compiled a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed," spokeswoman Lulama Luti said in a statement.

President Jacob Zuma would appoint a chairperson of the IEC once the position of commissioner had been filled.

The interviews would be held on November 20 and 21.

The candidates were:

-- Former ambassador to Bulgaria Sheila Margaret Camerer;

-- Chairwoman of the gender committee of the Law Society of SA Hlaleleni Kathleen Dlepu;

-- Professor Mzamo Alexander Gumbi;

-- Rebecca Madipoane Queendy Gungubele;

-- Advocate Salome Ngwanamathiba Khutsoane;

-- Part-time commissioner at the SA Human Rights Commission Janet Love;

-- Linky Ramakgahlela Mamoepa;

-- Special project adviser to the president Vuma Glenton Mashinini;

-- Tembeka Koekie Mdlulwa;

-- Lumko Caesario Mtimde;

-- Zwoitwaho Calvin Nevhutalu;

-- Advocate Motlatjo Josephine Ralefatane;

-- Jonas Ben Sibanyoni and;

-- Outreach manager at the IEC in the Northern Cape Maruping Michael Wildebees.

Luti said anybody was allowed to comment on the shortlisted candidates.

Comments could be sent to the office of the chief justice no later than November 12.
