Teacher raped boy at mall

A nine-year-old boy has revealed before the Protea Magistrate's Court how a teacher falsely lured him to Maponya Mall to rape him in the toilets.

Testifying on day two of the rape trial against 44-year-old HIV-positive Innocent Skosana, the boy told the Soweto court that the teacher offered him a lift home after a soccer practise session.

Skosana was a teacher at the school the little boy attended when the alleged incident happened last year.

Testifying via video link, the boy recalled the events of the fateful day.

"After the soccer practise, 'Sir' Skosana offered me a lift to take me home, but he lied. He took me to Maponya [Mall] instead," he said.

"When we got to the mall, he asked me whether I wanted to use the toilet. I said yes.

"He then took me to the restrooms. Once inside, he sat naked on top of a toilet and instructed me to sit on top of him.

"He then inserted his penis into my buttocks."

After the ordeal, the boy said Skosana offered him a R2 coin and also bought him ice cream.

He allegedly warned the boy not to tell his mother.

The boy said he never uttered a word to anyone until earlier this year when he learnt of Skosana's arrest on rape charges.

After he was admitted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for a medical examination, the mother revealed the information to the authorities.

Skosana was arrested in November last year after he was accused of raping a 10-year-old pupil on school premises.

He is charged with two counts of rape and one of attempted murder. The attempted murder charge is because he was aware of his HIV status.

Skosana was struck off the teachers' roll earlier this year by the Gauteng Department of Education after DNA evidence linked him to the rape of the first complainant.

On Tuesday, the first complainant told the magistrate he was raped by Skosana in a classroom as a punishment for having a dirty book.

Skosana faces a life sentence if found guilty.

Magistrate Audrey Mpofu postponed the case to October 27.
