An Economic Freedom Fighters member reportedly opened a case of assault against a colleague after he was attacked, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

"According to our information, there was a party political meeting in Mahwelereng on Sunday and an argument ensued between the two - the suspect and complainant," Colonel Ronel Otto said.

"The complainant was assaulted with fists and feet and he was hit over the head with an empty bottle."

Otto said on Sunday night the injured man opened a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm at the local police station.

"The matter is now being investigated. No arrest has been made yet."

Otto was unaware if the complainant went to hospital.

"If he went to hospital, he went there himself."

Otto said she could not disclose their identities or the party yet.
