Parliamentary proceedings were disrupted today by EFF members who were demanding answers from the President on whether he intended to pay back the money used for the construction of his Nkandla home.
Members of Parliament were given a chance to pose questions to the president during the National Assembly plenary and as expected Nkandla was the hot topic of the day.
The first to fire a hot question was DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane who asked the President whether he saw no conflict of interest in personally appointing the National director of Public Prosecution who would determine the outcome of his '781 charges'.
“There are no charges against me so the issue of conflict of interest does not arise on this case,” Zuma responded. "That is not a question", he continued.
EFF leader Julius Malema then asked about the Nkandla saga.
“I am asking because you have not provided an answer,” he said.
"You failed to meet the 14 days deadline set by the Public Protector and now when you respond, you tell us about the police who must decide who will pay.”
“We are not leaving before getting an answer. When are you going to pay the money because the Public Protector recommended that the President must pay it back?”
Zuma responded by saying that a response to all reports on the security upgrades were submitted to speaker last week.
“I hope we are not going to make a debate on this issue because I have responded appropriately,” Zuma added.
This infuriated EFF members who started shouting:
“The Nkandla money must be paid. You can’t hide behind The Presidency,” one member said.
"Bring back our money. Give us the date and time,” said another
“Pay back the money, they started shouting.”
Baleka Mbete was then forced to suspended proceedings after security requested the MPs to vacate Parliament in order to deal with the stubborn members of EFF.
