Democratic Alliance (DA) has agreed to come on board and unite with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as they plan to challenge the repayment of over R200million spent on Nkandla.

EFF Members of Parliament put up a protest earlier today in Parliament demanding President Jacob Zuma to pay back the money spent on upgrades at his private home in KwaZulu-Natal.

EFF leader Julius Malema said that they want to have a platform in Parliament to discuss the issue around the repayment of the money.

“The president must be held accountable, he is not above the law. He has an ID [Identity Document] like all of us.

“All of us must unite, the opposition must unite. There is no other avenue,” said Malema who then called on the DA to join them as they plan on challenging the Nkandla matter further.

DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane said that the DA agrees with the EFF and they should unite and seek answers on Nkandla.

“I agree fundamentally with the questions and that the president must give an answer to what it is and the how much and what is the amount itself,” said Maimane.

This however came after Maimane, in an earlier interview with eNCA, said that the EFF removed Parliament’s opportunity to hold President Zuma to account.

“The question is right, but here’s the fundamental issue here - that we call for an adhoc committee, the committee is established.

“"The president is notorious for not answering questions in the house and therefore it presents a problem, but the facts remain that there is an adhoc committee set up to deal with this question.”

“Members of the EFF failed, equally, by not respecting the proceedings of the House and removed Parliament's opportunity to hold the President to account,” said Maimane.
