Unannounced raids at schools throughout Gauteng will become a regular feature in a bid to curb violence, community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said on Thursday.
"I have instructed the police and my department to speed up the implementation of the unannounced visits to identified problematic schools," Nkosi-Malobane said in a statement.
The announcement follows the killing of a pupil at Soshanguve Central Secondary School on Monday. The incident left another pupil injured.
A 17-year-old pupil was being bullied and went home to fetch a knife which he allegedly used to stab his two bullies.
One died on the scene while one was injured and taken to hospital.
The teenager was arrested and appeared at the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court, where the case was postponed to August 18.
The MEC said the programme would entail sporadic raids at the schools with an aim to ensure that schools maintained their image of being institutions where teaching and learning took place.
She also paid a visit to the families of the three boys.
"In as much as these gruesome acts have brought pain to the families of the deceased and the injured, I'm comforted by the fact that the suspect has accepted the responsibility for the heinous crimes he committed," she said.
