A man was sentenced to eight years in prison for stock theft by the Groblersdal Regional Court on Tuesday, Limpopo police said.

Frank Lampy Tsima, 44, stole 12 cattle from a kraal in Groblersdal one night in September 2012 and transported them to Bela Bela, Constable Sethunya Mmuroa said.

Police were tipped off and he was arrested on September 12, 2012 while he was about to sell them at an auction in Bela Bela.

"The cattle were identified through colours and brand marks by their owner."

The cattle were estimated to be worth R78,000 at the time.
