Parolee held for rape

The man had previously been convicted of rape and sentenced to 29 years imprisonment.

A man on parole was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The man, 38, was arrested on Thursday night, Warrant Officer Kay Makubela said.

The arrest came three months after he allegedly raped the 25-year-old woman.

"The man raped the woman in March and was on the run until yesterday [Thursday], when police received a tip-off, traced him, and arrested him," said Makhubela.

In March, the woman was walking to work in a lane between houses, when the man allegedly grabbed her and took her into a nearby vacant house.

"He [allegedly] ordered her to take off her clothes and raped her from behind," said Makhubela.

The man had previously been convicted of rape and sentenced to 29 years imprisonment.

"He was out on parole," said Makhubela.

He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
