Baleka Mbete is speaker of National Assembly

MPs have voted for who they would like to see play a vital role in Parliament, and now the votes have revealed who the Speaker of the National Assembly will be.

Baleka Mbete will be replacing Max Sisulu with 260 votes.

Free from controversy and known for her strict persona, Mbete had previously served as Deputy President of South Africa from 2008 to 2009 under Kgalema Motlanthe.

She was previously Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2004 to 2008.

She was elected National Chairperson of the ANC in 2007 and reelected in 2012

Outgoing co-operative governance and traditional affairs minister Lechesa Tsenoli was elected deputy speaker unopposed..
