ANC prioritising rural development: Mkhize

The ANC is working to develop rural areas to improve residents' quality of life, ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize told potential voters in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.

Mkhize visited uMkhanyakude District and various communities in the Ekuhlehleni area and encouraged them to vote in the general elections on May 7.

"The ANC-led government has placed priority on the development of rural areas, because we don't believe people should move out of these areas in order to get a better quality of life," he said.

Mkhize said many parts of uMkhanyakude were now equipped with state-of-the-art clinics, road infrastructure, schools and sporting facilities.

"The district of uMkhanyakude has the first state of the art school in Ndumo, which is going to be used as a model for future developments in other districts.

"This is because the ANC wants to ensure that the children from rural areas like this one have access to quality public education, and by the time they reach tertiary level, they can compete on an equal footing with children who went to school in affluent areas," he said.
