Oscar trial: Oscar, Reeva shared interest in cars

Murder accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius and the woman he is accused of murdering, Reeva Steenkamp, shared an interest in cars, the High Court in Pretoria heard on Tuesday.

"There was an interest showed between Mr Pistorius and Reeva and that is motor vehicles," Barry Roux, SC, for Pistorius said.

He was cross-examining Captain Francois Moller, who extracted data from the couple's iPhones after Steenkamp was killed on February 14 last year.

Roux was looking at the internet history on Steenkamp's phone. She visited websites like motormag and vehicletraders. The couple exchanged WhatsApp messages about cars.

"Some of the messages also include pictures of motor vehicles," said Roux.

He was making the argument that the couple were in a loving relationship, as "90 percent" of the messages exchanged between them in the weeks before Steenkamp's death indicated.

On Monday, Moller, being questioned by prosecutor Gerrie Nel, read to the court messages from Steenkamp to the athlete indicating Pistorius was possessive and threw temper tantrums.

Roux said on Tuesday: "[They were] sharing motor vehicle details."

Moller added: "And comments on certain aspects of motor vehicles."

Pistorius has been charged with the premeditated murder of Steenkamp and of contravening the Firearms Control Act.

He allegedly fired a shot from a Glock pistol under a table at a Johannesburg restaurant in January 2013.

On September 30, 2012 he allegedly shot through the open sunroof of a car with his 9mm pistol while driving with friends in Modderfontein.
