Man shot dead in Johannesburg

An eyewitness, Saadz Asvat, told the newspaper that two men got out of the Golf, shot at the BMW driver, took three big black bags out of the boot, and fled.

A man has been shot dead while driving in Kensington, Johannesburg, paramedics said on Thursday.

"Paramedics tried to resuscitate him, but he was already dead," ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said.

Police said a car was shot at on Wednesday.

"I can confirm the shooting incident," Colonel Noxolo Kweza said.

"The man unfortunately died. We cannot say currently how he died as this will be revealed by the autopsy."

Beeld newspaper reported on Thursday that two men in a VW Golf with no number plates shot at a BMW X5. The BMW lost control and went through the fence of the sports field of Jeppe High School for girls in Kensington.

An eyewitness, Saadz Asvat, told the newspaper that two men got out of the Golf, shot at the BMW driver, took three big black bags out of the boot, and fled.

Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe said it was not known what was in the bags. He said there were six bullet holes in the driver's side of the BMW.

The man killed was believed to be on his way from the Diamond Centre in the Johannesburg CBD to Bedfordview, where he lived with his aunt.

Police were investigating a case of robbery and murder.
