Baby killed in West Rand accident

A one-year-old girl was killed when her aunt, who was carrying her, was struck by a car in Witpoortjie in Roodepoort on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

The woman was trying to cross Corlett Drive at the intersection with Java Street when she was hit by a Volkswagen Polo, ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said.

It appeared that the baby was flung from the woman's arms when the car struck her.

The child died before paramedics arrived on the scene. Her aunt was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver was not injured.
