Gauteng officially launches phase 1B of Rea Vaya

During the official launch, the Rea Vaya BRT will introduce 134 new buses and 12 more routes in line with the City's commitment to improve the lives of Gauteng communities through infrastructure development.

Gauteng: The Deputy Minister of Transport, Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga and Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyana will, on Monday, 14th October 2013 officially launch Phase 1B of the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit services. During the official launch, the Rea Vaya BRT will introduce 134 new buses and 12 more routes in line with the City's commitment to improve the lives of Gauteng communities through infrastructure development. The project will enhance the City's spatial vision of Corridors of Freedom whilst providing a safe,affordable and reliable transport system. The details of the event as follows:

TIME : 08h30 for registration and accreditation

VENUE: Milpark Park,Rea Vaya Station, Empire and Owl Street,Milpark

PART 1: 8:30 to 10:00 All guests arrive at Milpark Park Registration and media accreditation Guests board Rea Vaya buses and move to Marco Polo in Germiston

PART 2: 10:00 to 11:00 Programme Director: Welcome by Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Welcome by CEO of Sandown Motor Holdings, Remarks by Minister of Economic Development, Official hand over of keys to Rea Vaya buses to Executive Mayor Safety instructions to visitors: Tour of the plant in groups of 20 (5 groups in total)Photo opportunity (Minister, Deputy Minster, Premier, MEC, Executive Mayor, MMCs present and CEOs of SMH, Marco Polo and Mercedes)Return to buses and travel to Bosmont Station

PART 3: 11:00 to 12:00 Drive on part of the phase 1B route from Bosmont Station up to Milpark station Guests disembark and are ushered across the road for formal proceedings
