Xhosa rapper Ifani's outburst on Twitter is exposing his publisher Arnold Mhamvu, owner of Dreamer Music Group for owing him over R100 000.
The ‘Ewe’ singer alleges that his publisher is refusing to pay him money that is due to him for the past four months - and has gone silent on him, refusing to take his calls.
The rapper worked on two deals with Mhlamvu. The Mnet and SAMAs gigs which paid a great amount of money.
Sowetan LIVE got in touch with the rapper to find out more.
“This guy worked with me as my publisher, after being recommended by a friend. Together we sealed a deal that I got from my record company Sony with Mnet and SAMAS. He received money that was meant to come to me.
“Instead of discussing payments with me he did not say a word about the deal,” says angry Ifani.
Ifani says both deals were paid strictly for his work.
“He was supposed to give me my money but he made up excuses promising to pay me in May then June.
“When I saw that he is ripping me off I called my trusted friend who recommended Arnold to tell him about my problem. He helped me reach the guy that owes me and he made another promise to pay me in July. When it was time to cough up he gave me another story.
“He later promised to deliver the cash in September but now he has gone silent on me, his phone goes unanswered,” he says.
He admits to not checking his publishers’ background and regrets signing into Mhlamvu’s company.
“I initially wanted to work with Sony but a good friend of mine recommended Arnold, I am not the only artist he publishes for, he also works with L-tido, Seanpages and Brickz.
Ifani who feels like a victim describes his publisher as a pig since he is not the only person he has robbed.
“That pig! It turns out I am not the only person he has f***d, even rapper Seanpages is crying about the same thing.”
“I did not research him because of the trust I have for my friend.”
Ifani says his biggest concern is for his producers who need to be paid.
“I have producers who depend on this money, it is business for them. If it were not for me performing at gigs and making money from them I would also be in a bigger mess.
“I want people to know what kind of person this man is. I hope no one gets exploited and fall for his scams again.”
After several attempts by Sowetan Live to contact Arnold Mhlamvu, his phone rings with no answer for a comment.
