Mpisane back in court

Businesswoman Shauwn Mpisane is expected to appear in the Durban Regional Court on Friday for allegedly inflating her business invoices by almost R5 million to cut her tax bill.

She is accused of inflating the invoices of her business - Zikhulise Cleaning, Maintenance, and Transport CC.

The State dropped fraud and corruption charges against her in the Durban Commercial Crime Court on January 15 because the forensic investigation could not be finished on time, the National Prosecuting Authority said at the time.

After proceedings conclude at the regional court on Friday, Mpisane is expected to go to the Pinetown Magistrate's Court where she is accused of interfering with a State witness related to the tax fraud case.

The lead prosecutor in those two cases has been removed. The National Director of Public Prosecutions will inform the courts on Friday whether the cases will proceed following representations by Mpisane's lawyers about the prosecution's conduct.

Mpisane's lawyers have accused the prosecution of suppressing evidence.
