Abathembu king on his way out: Brother

By Sapa | Jul 08, 2013 | COMMENTS [ 22 ]

AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo who on Sunday called for Nelson Mandela's grandson Mandla to be deposed as chief of Mvezo, may not be a ruler for much longer himself, according to a senior member of the AbaThembu royal family.

Chief Daludumo Mtirara, Dalindyebo's brother, told Sapa that the royal family was waiting for the government to process documents confirming that Dalindyebo had been removed as head of the family.

“The family are waiting for the government to process the documents confirming that he has been removed,” Mtirara said.

“One the government has done its work, the royal family will sit and identify a suitable candidate to take over as king, as is our custom. We are guided by custom.”

On Sunday Dalindyebo, who recently announced that he would be joining the Democratic Alliance and promised he would stop smoking dagga “the day President Jacob Zuma stops being corrupt", said that Mandla Mandela had used the family graves “as a dancing floor”.

He told the City Press newspaper that he was planning to write to Mandla informing him that he was no longer allowed to take any responsibility on issues concerning the Madiba clan, which falls under the abaThembu.

He had given the Mandelas the Madiba chieftancy to honour Nelson Mandela and not Mandla, he said.

Mtirara said the royal family took the Mandela royal house “with some degree of independence” and that it did not want to interfere in a family feud between Mandla Mandela and the other Mandelas over the location of a family gravesite.

"I do not think he (the king) is able to play any role in the Mandela family,” said Mtirara, who is the king's brother.

"He cannot even play a role in his great house... which is the core of the royal family...

"We are defending the kingdom. We must defend the integrity of that institution.”

Dalindyebo was not available for comment.

A report by the royal family on Dalindyebo, who served papers on Parliament in 2010 proposing that the tribe secede from South Africa, gave the king a score of two out of ten.

The report cited a 2009 conviction by the Eastern Cape High Court in Mthtatha of culpable homicide, kidnapping, arson and assault as points counting against him.

Dalindyebo demanded R900 million from the government for the humiliation caused by the criminal trial in which he was sentenced to 15 years of jail time for the charges which dated back to 1995 and 1996 on his farm, Tyalara, near Mthatha and for which he is currently out on bail, pending an appeal.

Meanwhile the SABC reports that the war of words has intensified between Dalindyebo and Mandla Mandela.

Dalindyebo - who on Friday called for peace among the

Mandela family and the Thembu nation - has now reportedly removed

Mandla Mandela from his duties.

The king is quoted as saying both he and the Mandela family have been angered by Mandla's conduct during the recent spat over the exhumation and reburial of three of Nelson Mandela's children.

Earlier, the king accused Mandla Mnadela of trying to dethrone him. Mandla, however, denied this and asked the king to leave him alone, the SABC reported.

1. aren't these the same people who sued Madiba over trust fund few months back?
2.where were they in 2011 when the graves were exhumed?I believe at that time madiba could still speak.
3. did he raise any concerns over the removals of the grave?because from 2011 to opening a case in 2013 raises few questions
4. lastly those who who questions the illegitimacy of mandla's chieftaincy, where were they when Madiba and the elders anoited him as chief?why didn't they raise concerns then to Madiba?
5. Isn't shaka zulu himself one born outside the wedlock among many other kings we know?
6. isn't Mveso the birthplace of madiba?and as son of a king isn't Mveso a great place where the abaThembu kings are sleeping?
7. so what wrong in relocating graves from Qunu to Mveso, seeing that it's royalty we are speaking about here?
some of these things are very cultural,it's a pity that they are on TV,even those unfamiliar with xhosa culture are commenting.

1. The two daughters are the ones who were suing but there are a lot of others involved in the Game of Bones saga, including Graca

2. Madiba was in hospital at the time (remember? It was his first big scare)

3. The case began in 2012 and is only being finished now in 2013. Nobody knew he had removed the bodies until Dec 2011

As for the chieftaincy. Who the hell knows. It is such a mess with all the allegations and counter allegations that I've gotten lost

'Go to hell', AbaThembu king tells Zuma

"I cannot be told by Zuma and Baloyi to call a meeting of AmaDlomo. Who are they in the affairs of AmaDlomo?” Dalindyebo asked at the meeting on Saturday.

"No outsider will dictate terms on how I should handle my family matters. He can go to hell."

@snowie22

obviously this has nothing to do with culture, it is a power struggle as people are looking to align themselves better to the will and any benefits after the old man passes on........

+The graves were not important until they realised:
1. Madiba wanted to buried next to his children,
2. this is a potential tourist site, ( mandla is buildig a hotel already)

+ In terms of stripping Mandla his chieftaincy, this is done so that he does not have much power to fight back, atleast until the old man passe on.

Let those that want to farm in the Eastern Cape and Kwa Zulu be allowed to by giving them full title deeds of ownership to their smallholdings, and assistance in the form of education and extension services. The present system has reduced much of these areas to eroded wasteland. Let the people be free to chose their own future without the likes of kings and chiefs dictating to the people.

whilst I am no big fan of Mandla Mandela I don't support the view that he shoudl be deposed of chieftancy, Madiba appointed Mandla we should respect that, if he is not doing things they way they should be he should be cautioned that's what the elders are there for.

On another hand the Mandela chidlren are a bunch of money grabbing garmors I feel sorry for Mme Graca who has to breath same air as these corrupt mafia kids, on the other hand they fit so perfectly within the anc today, both have no integrity, no character, no ethics, no values, no morals, no nothing!!!!
