Dream Ferrari, then death

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy and only child was killed in a hit-and-run incident moments after posing for photos with his dream sports car in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.

Olerato Chiloane-Makena of Stinkwater near Hammanskraal was hit by a speeding car outside his grandparents' home in Block H early on Saturday evening.

According to the boy's uncle Aaron Ngobeni, a black Jeep Compass driven by a woman attending a party at a house down the street sped up and down the street several times.

"A friend of mine, driving a Ferrari, joined us at home and at about 6pm my nephew, who loves Ferraris, came out of the house to see his dream car parked outside. Olerato posed for photos next to the car."

The Jeep drove past at high speed again and when it returned a short while later it hit Olerato and did not even attempt to stop, Ngobeni said.

Olerato's cousin Mbali Monanyane, 18, said: "Olerato tried to run away but the SUV hit him, sent him through the air and he hit a low brick wall ."

The teenager said Olerato died on the way to the hospital.

Ngobeni said family and friends tried to follow the vehicle but it raced away. "We continued with the search until it was spotted hidden behind a high brick wall in another section."

Police allegedly traced the owner, who was not driving at the time.
