Pretoria name change row nears end

Clarity on the Tshwane/Pretoria name change issue could be expected soon.

It quoted mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa as saying a decision on the matter would be announced within weeks by Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile.

Ramokgopa said a name change report for the capital city would be tabled at the Tshwane Metro Council's monthly meeting next month.

He also announced that the dual street name signs displayed on 27 streets in the city would now be removed, after the expiration of a set six-months' period.

"We have exceeded that (six months') period. Now is the time that Lilian Ngoyi (Street) comes to life and Van der Walt (Street) goes to rest," said Ramokgopa.
