Dead tiger found in Benoni driveway

"This was not a vehicle or a dog bite. She was kicked or hit with something."

An injured tiger cub has been found dead in a Benoni driveway.

Chantal Kingsmill said she got home on Saturday night to find the 10-week-old animal lying dead in her driveway.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) officials said the animal died of a blunt force trauma.

"Her vertebrae were snapped by some kind of blow," SPCA spokeswoman Isabel Wentzel told The Star.

"This was not a vehicle or a dog bite. She was kicked or hit with something."

It was not clear where the animal was from, but Benoni has several small-holdings.

The SPCA and Green Scorpions were trying to trace the cub's origin by investigating whether any Gauteng resident had recently applied for an animal permit.
