Kanye West disappoints fans

GRAMMY Award winner Kanye West's performance at the CocaCola Dome in Johannesburg on Saturday night was a bit of a letdown, with fans having to wait until after 11pm for the superstar to make an appearance.

West was the main act for this year's Feel the Beat of Sub Zero Experience. The crowd got so tired of waiting for West that they started booing show host Pearl Thusi.

Before West, a string of local acts, which included HHP, entertained the crowd. Meanwhile, rapper AKA turned out to be the surprise artist for the night. AKA made a dramatic entrance as the stage crew carried him onto the stage in what looked like a giant ice-cube.

After AKA's performance more time was spent erecting another stage for West. When he finally appeared, however, fans quickly forgave him, singing along to his songs. For some, the performance was worth the wait, with fans taking to Twitter. @Zama_MissJ tweeted "Was brought to tears when he sang Runaway. This man is beyond his time." He performed songs from his debut album College Dropoutand some of his latest hits such as Homecoming.

West's much anticipated tour was announced last year, creating a lot of hype. There were also rumours that the rap genius would come with his pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian. "I'm here to watch Kanye and hopefully get a glimpse of Kim," said Sthembile Ngwane from Houghton.

West, who is also known for his great fashion sense, wore a white suit and later changed into a straight jacket and a feather mask. He wore a diamond mask when he performed the smash hit Diamonds Are Forever. The concert ended just after midnight, with some people leaving the venue while West was still on stage. - mahopoz@sowetan.co.za
