Teenage wife murdered

'If you do things thinking that nobody will see you, even the wall have ears'

A TEENAGE wife was found dead in her Protea Glen, Soweto, home on Friday.

Her husband, 44, who owns a small construction company, has now been arrested as the principal suspect in her murder.

The 17-year-old girl, whose name cannot be published because her next of kin have not yet been informed of her death, was found with her mouth stuffed and limbs tied up, according to tenants who live in the home's back rooms.

They said that loud arguing had been heard coming from inside the main house in the early afternoon, but that this had been regarded as the commotion common when a couple was having a "normal" marital dispute.

"According to what he [the husband] told us, he was supposed to have met with a friend at the house that afternoon," they said.

A distraught relative of the wife, who had driven from Limpopo after hearing of her death and who declined to give his name, said: "What is puzzling though is that when the friend arrived, he jumped over the wall and entered the house from the kitchen door, at the back, upon which he found her [the deceased] dead and called the police".

The relative said the couple were married around May last year, and did not seem to have had any problems.

The man was arrested after the police had questioned his workers.

Soweto police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela confirmed that the man had been arrested.

"We suspect foul play and have arrested the husband as our prime suspect," he said.

"What we can at this stage say is that if you do things thinking that nobody will see you, even the wall have ears. We will investigate and find the truth."
