School head 'assaulted' by angry parent

REFUSING to allow pupils who failed matric to repeat the year has allegedly led to a Limpopo school principal being assaulted.

The principal was allegedly beaten in front of pupils and teachers at his school by an angry parent.

The incident happened at Manoe Secondary School in GaKobe village outside Senwabarwana on Monday.

A source at the school said yesterday that an angry villager entered the school premises shortly after the morning assembly and went straight to principal Aubrey Molokomme's office. He allegedly accused him of refusing to take back his daughter who had failed matric in last year's exams.

According to the source, the villager started by slapping Molokomme in the face before punching him. He said Molokomme fled and was seen outside the school grounds making calls from his cellphone.

"Two police vans arrived at the school but the police found that Molokomme's attacker had left."

The school has also been threatened by protest action from pupils because Molokomme allegedly refuses to allow pupils older than 19 in lower grades.

Approached for comment yesterday, Molokomme refuted all the allegations, saying all the pupils who had failed were allowed to repeat the year. As for the beating, Molokomme said it never happened.

Police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed they were called to the school but said no case was opened.

"We only went to the school to soften up the situation because the pupils were threatening to go on the rampage. But we are happy the situation is calm now," said Mulaudzi. - frankm@sowetan.co.za
