A police constable attempted to kill his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself on Tuesday, said North West police.
The 26-year-old constable was allegedly seen arguing with his 21-year-old girlfriend at a tavern in Modimong village near Taung, said police spokeswoman Amanda Funani.
He left the tavern with the woman in a car and drove to the bushes.
She was later found handcuffed to a tree with a gunshot wound to the hip.
The constable’s body was found nearby and it was believed he shot himself.
The woman was taken to Taung Hospital for treatment.
