This is among the issues that emerged from the commissions that have been debating a wide range of issues at the Mangaung conference since Tuesday.
This comes a few days after ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe's scathing criticism of the league. Mantashe said the league was acting in a similar manner to forces that were against the party.
An ANCYL leader from Gauteng said the league was not complementing the ANC and would compromise President Jacob Zuma's election campaign in 2014.
Sowetan understands that KwaZulu-Natal youth league members and their Ekurhuleni counterparts launched the bid to disband the NEC before the closing of the conference today.
However, a Greater Johannesburg region league member who is against the move said: "What they are doing will result in chaos . we will fight for the ANC Youth League at [the] plenary session."
His views were echoed by Mpumalanga youth league chairman Clarence Maseko. "They say the league is ill-disciplined and doesn't listen. They want us to do what they want. This youth league is independent [from the ANC] in thought and execution, and that doesn't bode well with the leadership."
