The committee would have the power to subpoena any member to appear before it.

The ANC conference has resolved to establish an integrity committee at both national and provincial levels to deal with party members accused of misconduct.

The party briefed media on its resolutions on organisational renewal and strategy and tactics in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night.

The ANC is holding its national elective conference at the University of Free State in Mangaung.

ANC Gauteng secretary David Makhura said the committee would be established within three months of the election of the party’s new executive committee.

The committee would have the power to subpoena any member to appear before it.

“The committee will help us nip corruption in the bud. The ANC wants to hold members accountable, and for them to respect the laws of the country,” Makhura said.

The committee would also look into the business interests of members.

Party leaders and public representatives would declare their business interests to the committee. It will also comprise the party’s veterans and elders.

Makhura said earlier the ANC would train its cadres over the next 10 years.

The 1.2 million members would receive political, ethical and ideological training to “rebuild their profile”.
