It isn't the end of the world, it is the end of a period in time. The Mayans had many of those throughout their existence. If anything, it is when the world finishes being turbulent and goes back to being calm.

Oh, and if they were so good at predicting stuff, why didn't they predict their own demise?

You spot on... it isn't the end of the world, it is the end of a cycle... over the long weekend I had an argument with some guys who insisted that the sun is not moving, but I tried to explain to them the fuss about Dec 21...

Even Tsunami, had signs before hitting town, but the signs were ignored, but this so called dooms day would not be a miracle but magic if it happen, when people halusinate because of sniffing some baking powder, they shouldn't invite press/media, one of the 1000 existing cults prepare people for mass suicide they call it dooms day
